Types of Self-Tanning Products
There are several different types of self-tanning products such as sprays, lotions, and mousses.
Self-tanning sprays: When applying a spray tan, it is important to follow the directions completely. If you are applying the spray tan at home, you can apply the tan in the nude, or use a strapless bikini. When you are spraying the tan, hold the Aerosol six inches from your body and spray. Once applied, keep your legs and arms spread until the spray has dried. If you should happen to streak your application, then remove the spray by taking a warm washcloth and rubbing the skin until the solution is removed.
Lotions: The lotions are likely the most popular of the sunless tanning products and one that are the easiest to use. With the lotion, you merely apply the lotion to your body and / or face evenly. The sunless tanning lotion will begin to achieve its effects in as little as a few hours and will last for up to seven days.
Mousse: The mousse is much like the lotion and is applied directly to the body.
How Sunless Tanners Work
The majority of self-tanners contain dihydroxyacetone which is a simple carbohydrate. The carbohydrate reacts with the skin’s dead cells and the result is a darkening of the skin’s appearance, which achieves the look of a sun kissed tan.
